Message from Michael Heacock, Board President: Thank you to everyone who joined us for our annual Summer Solstice party! What a wonderful way to spend an evening with so many of you at our beautiful, peaceful site. We hoped you enjoyed the refreshments, art activity, and music by the Matt Lax band. Special thanks to Abby Wasserman, Elaine James, Cayen Robertson, Joan Sadler, Barry Toranto, Anabelle Wasserman, Megan Wilkinson, and Emily Wong for helping arrange the party and activities.
We are looking for volunteers to help us with ongoing gardening and maintenance projects. If you can donate a few hours or more, we would love to get your help. Please contact us at 415-388-4331.
As some of you may know, we are planning some site upgrades over the next two years, including accessible parking and pathway to the Loft and Gallery. The centerpiece to the current plan is our deck replacement project, which will include new paving between the Loft and Gallery. We’re excited to make accessibility and safety improvements. We hope you will find a way to participate as we move forward with our plans.
July Artist Retreat: SECOND WEEK ADDED OHCA is offering a second July Artist Retreat (the original retreat scheduled for July 22-26 is sold out). The retreat is a weeklong (5 day) opportunity for artists to work independently but in the company of other dedicated artists. This is not a workshop, and there will be no instruction. What there will be is an opportunity for serious self-directed artists to work in a quiet atmosphere for a sustained period of time, working together but independently in the spirit of creativity.
The Retreat will be held Monday, July 15, through Friday, July 19, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the OHCA Loft and outside areas.
The Retreat is open to anyone who agrees to some simple rules. There is to be no talking. Silence with talking quietly only is allowed outside during the hours of 9 – 5 and no music is allowed except with earphones. No visitors except after 5. Participants will be responsible for their own lunch and art supplies unless otherwise designated. Artists may leave their supplies and work set up during the week and will be required to clean up afterwards.
There is a limited amount of space available for this retreat. There is space for 7 Visual Artists and 3 Writers. Spaces are given to those who reserve first and with fees paid. If we find we have many more applicants than we have space, we may schedule another retreat.
Thursday, July 18, after 5 p.m. there will be a pot luck dinner where everyone can socialize and share their work/process, etc. The price for the July Artist Retreat is: $185 for the week-long retreat; $150 OHCA members.
