Diorama June 2015
REPORT ON RECENT MEMBERS’ MEETING: Construction Updates & New Pledge Program
The Members’ Meeting on May 19 was attended by more than 20 members plus staff – nearly 10% of our membership (230). We started the evening by sharing the delicious food everyone contributed, then heard details of the Site Improvement Plan from Michael Heacock, our architect and project manager (and former board president). After the deck, new path between Loft and Gallery, and exterior staircase are built, we plan to add an accessible main entrance to the Loft, ADA restroom, and ADA parking space. The accessibility improvements are a choice as well as a requirement.
Our contractor, James Chenney, then answered questions about the timeline and scope of work. If all goes smoothly, the first phase will be completed by the beginning of September. There will be some inconvenience, noise, and limited access during construction, but all are committed to keeping the Center’s programs open and working throughout.

We are sad to announce that beloved longtime member Elinor Severinghaus passed away on March 16th after a long illness. She was a watercolorist, teacher, wife, mother, and world traveler. Her book with Suzi Martin, “According to Ann,” collected Ann O’Hanlon’s teachings.

I’m delighted to announce that our board member Scott Adams has arranged a wonderful half-day trip April 26th to Oliver Ranch Foundation in Geyserville, where art collector Stephen Oliver will personally lead a tour around the extensive grounds of his outstanding collection, which includes Andy Goldsworthy, Dennis Leon, Bruce Nauman, and Martin Puryear, among many others. (Opportunities to tour the Ranch are limited and we expect to fill ours).
Oliver Ranch Foundation generously offers tours to non-profit organizations and all monies over transportation and logistical costs go directly to the non-profits. Scott researched what other groups charge, and our rates are lower than most. We offer our members a special price of $75 per ticket; the non-member price is $100.

We had a wonderful Members Meeting on January 6, attended by 50 members, followed by a Roundtable discussion in the O’Hanlon and Loft galleries and an opening reception, during which Jonathan Schiele and new member Larry Stefl played beautiful music and new member Shepherd Bliss performed two poems, one of his own and one by Mary Oliver. The 2015 Members Show is in three venues this year, including City Hall. It illustrates the diverse talents of 60 of our artist-members.
Since the 2014 Treasurer’s Report wasn’t finished in time for the Members Meeting, we are calling a special meeting at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 3rd in the Loft to distribute the report and discuss income and expenses in 2014. We will also share information about the status of our endowment fund, which is under new management. All Members are invited to attend.
