The Art of Fabric Printing with Asual Kwahuumba
The Art of Fabric Printing
Facilitated by Asual Kwahuumba
When – Saturday, April 11 | 10 am -12pm in the Loft
In the Art of Fabric Printing workshop, participants will learn color application and effective printing techniques. The session will cover various methods for creating patterns on customized fabric, and we will reference an Adinkra Symbolism chart to explore the meanings behind each symbol.
Adinkra symbols are visual representations of concepts, proverbs, and philosophical ideas originating from the Akan people of Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire. They are used to communicate deep social, spiritual, and historical meanings, often featuring on textiles, art, pottery, architecture, and jewelry to symbolize values like strength, wisdom, and unity.
While fabric will be provided, participants are welcome to bring personal items such as T-shirts, trousers, or other garments they wish to print on.
$50 | $40 OHCA members. Plus $15 materials fee paid to instructor
This Workshop will be led by Asual Kwahuumba in celebration of the Art of the Africa Diaspora exhibition in the Gallery April 2026. O’Hanlon Center is a satellite gallery for the Richmond Art Center’s 29th annual event.
