Create a beautiful 12 inch-tall bird sculpture from clay in this three-day workshop. Choose an owl, bluejay, or an imaginative abstract bird while learning hand-building techniques that bring your sculpture to life.
Throughout the workshop, you’ll learn:
- Hand-building construction techniques for sculptural forms
- How to create feather textures and surface details
- Ways to add personality, character, and expression to your bird
- Finishing and glazing techniques
Workshop Schedule
- Day 1: Design and begin constructing your bird sculpture
- Day 2: Complete construction and add textures and details
- Day 3: Final refinements and glazing of your sculpture

About the Facilitator
Nancy Harter Rumsey has taught ceramics in Marin for 40 years and enjoys creating wheel and hand built pottery. She loves creating garden birds to add to her landscaping. Working with clay allows textures and colors to come to life through application of glazes and stains. She has become a member of O’Hanlon Center for the Arts and manages the ceramic studio.
