(Mill Valley, CA) O’Hanlon Center for the Arts Presents
Young Artists at Work: K-8 Student Art from Bayside Martin Luther King, Jr. Academy, Marin City.
This May gallery show is underwritten by Once Around, the Mill Valley Arts & Crafts Store.
The gallery exhibit of young student art is held in partnership with the non-profit The Center for Excellence: Empowering Students Through the Arts, whose goal is to ensure that Bayside MLK’s 150 students maintain continuing access to high quality visual and performing arts programs. Due to school budget cuts, the arts and music programs face the serious threat of being eliminated if the money to keep it alive is not raised. The arts are a vital part of students’ education and lives, and Bayside MLK students need and deserve a quality arts education. The fundraising goal is $100,000, of which approximately $30,000 has been raised since the launch of the non-profit last September.
Artwork created by 75 – 100 kindergarten through eighth grade students will be exhibited during the month of May in the O’Hanlon Center Gallery, raising awareness in the community and providing Bayside MLK students the invaluable opportunity to participate in all aspects of a formal exhibit; planning, set-up, interacting with reception guests and the public during the Artists’ Roundtable Dialogue and art opening. A special thank you to Once Around in Mill Valley who has provided the funds to make this show possible.
The closing party and fundraiser Saturday May 21st from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. is open to the public and will include sale of student artwork, a silent auction of artwork by local artists, live music, and light refreshments. Tickets ($20, sliding scale) may be purchased ahead of time or at the door.
