Dick O’Hanlon Sculptures on Display Two of Dick’s pieces, a copper wall hanging and a stone sculpture, will be included at an exhibit of past Marin Society of Artists’ Presidents at the Dominican University Library. The show will run May 23 to June 28, 2012. Guests are invited to a group viewing on Sunday, June 10 at 2 p.m. with a reception at the MSA gallery (30 Sir Francis Drake Ave., Ross) immediately following.
Dine Out for O’Hanlon! OHCA has entered into a partnership with the Strawberry Village Pasta Pomodoro. Collect a special flier from OHCA (we have included a .pdf you can print above as attachment, and will have copies in the Loft and in the office too), bring the flier with you on Thursday, June 14 and or Sunday, July 15 and 20 % of your tab will be donated to OHCA! Another Great Way to Give O’Hanlon Center has also enrolled in Escrip.com, an online resource for fundraising where participating businesses contribute a percentage of your grocery loyalty cards, credit card, and debit/ATM card purchases back to OHCA. Visit their family of merchants for a complete list of businesses in the program. Here’s how it works: You register any one or all of your existing grocery loyalty, debit and credit cards for use in the program. Participating merchants will make contributions to OHCA based on purchases made by you, just by using the cards you have registered. Your purchases are tracked and available to you online, allowing you to see just how much you are earning on OHCA’s behalf! Take a look at the Escrip website and enroll today to begin giving to O’Hanlon Center—we thank you in advance!
OHCA’s Annual Summer Solstice Party will be held on Wednesday, June 20, from 4 to 7 p.m. We invite members to bring a dish, friends, and family to this free potluck get-together. In order for this great tradition to continue this year, we will need two volunteers to oversee the event. If you’re interested, please contact Megan at 388-4331. We’ll hope to see you there!
Marin Open Studios, 2013 Congratulations to all the OHCA members who participated in MOS this year. We hope you saw many sales! OHCA is looking for a volunteer to manage next year’s MOS at OHCA. We are also now accepting names of any members who are interested in sharing the Gallery or outdoor space at OHCA for next year’s event. Names will be taken on a first come, first served basis, and space is limited.
Bookcases Wanted OHCA is excited to offer hand-built ceramic classes for adults and children this summer! However, we are in need of wooden bookcases/cabinets to be used as drying racks. We also have a lot of scrap wood on site, so if you are handy or know a carpenter who will donate their time, please forward that info to the OHCA office.
July Artist Opportunity The Miller Avenue Whole Foods will be celebrating their 20th anniversary on Saturday, July 21. OHCA has been working with them to provide 15 tables for artists to sell their works the day of their party. There will be other vendors and a live band. RSVP to the office if you’d like a table to sell your artwork. Tables will be provided on a first come, first served basis.
July Artist Retreat: The Visual Artist spaces for the Retreat (to be held Monday, July 23, through Friday, July 27, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the OHCA Loft and outside areas) have been filled, but there are still 5 Writing Spaces available. The price for the week-long July Artist Retreat is: $185 general; $150 OHCA members. Contact the OHCA office for complete details.

Media: any media or material, from major installations to minuscule “gems.” The emphasis of this exhibit will be not on the final perfected form of the work, but on how well pieces reflect the sense and feeling of this elusive concept. In particular, focus will be on the imaginative use of materials and uniqueness. See the Wabi-Sabi portion of the OHCA website for inspiration: (ohanloncenter.org/programs/wabi-sabi/) All works must be ready to hang or display and labeled with artist’s name, telephone, medium, size, and price, if for sale. Outdoor installation proposals welcome.
Dates for Exhibition Entries: Hand-deliver (no slides or photos) up to 3 pieces of work to OHCA on Friday, June 1, between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. or on Saturday, June 2, between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. We will notify you about whether your work has been accepted by Monday, June 4 at 5 p.m.
Those works not accepted must be picked up on Tuesday, June 5 between 12:30 p.m. and 8 p.m., unless alternative arrangements are made. Please include biographical information and your email address if you have one. Information about hanging/showing and Gallery policies will be provided at the Center.
Gallery Requirements: Insurance coverage is provided by the Artist. Accepted work must remain on view for the duration of the exhibition. By taking part in the show, artists agree to a 30% tax-deductible donation to the Center from all sales.
Retrieval of Unsold Artwork: Unsold work must be picked up on Thurs., June 28 b/t 2 and 4 p.m., or on Friday, June 29, b/t 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. Artists leaving their work after this time will be charged a $5/day storage fee.
Also on Exhibit during June: “Cayen Robertson: One by One” These new works are a poetic/musical way of visualizing the culture and connectedness of the world we live in. Each work which she calls “composites” are, as a whole, made up of distinct equally sized segments. Each segment has its own rhythm, mood, scale and event. Together the segments join forces and become visual poems or modern musical compositions where harmony, dissonance, feeling and emotion meet. The viewer is experiencing both the excitement of moment to moment and at the same time the richness of the complicated and connectedness of the whole.
