DESCRIPTION

Fiber Art is a fine art approach of creating objects, with an emphasis on materiality, and the fine manual labor involved using natural and/or synthetic fibers that tend to be flexible.Personal expression defines this art form leading to abstraction, story telling or impressions. Textiles, fabrics, and found objects are often included.

We are looking for wall-hanging or sculptural works that are created with knotting, twining, plaiting, sewing, embroidery, felting, paper making, knitting, crocheting or weaving natural or synthetic dyeing as paint or print. Explore the possibilities. They are endless.

SUBMISSION APPLICATION FORM


MEDIA

  • Fiber, including 3D/Sculptural works
  • Open to all artists aged 16 and over.
  • Submission limit: 3 works per artist.
  • Works previously displayed in the O’Hanlon Gallery are not eligible.

ART PREPARATION

  • All work must be ready for display. Paint, glue, etc. must be dry!
  • Max size for wall pieces: 40” wide | 60” high
  • Wall hung pieces must be securely wired or have easy to install hardware provided
  • Label all work with Artist’s name & Contact 
  • Bring or attache resume and/or artist statement to the application if desired. (2 pages max.)

ENTRY PROCESS

  • Please hand-deliver (no digital submissions) up to three pieces of work to:
    O’Hanlon Center for the Arts • 616 Throckmorton Avenue, Mill Valley CA 94941
  • NEW! We are moving from handwritten applications to a digital submission process using JotForm. Please note that all artwork must still be hand-delivered to the gallery for jurying. 
  • We strongly encourage all artists to complete their submission application form online before bringing in their artwork.
  • You may pay online by credit card, or indicate that you’ll pay by check, cash, or Venmo at drop-off.
  • If you’re unable to complete the form in advance, we’ll be available to assist you when you arrive.
  • The art tags will be printed by the office and handed to you to attach to the work when you arrive to drop off work.

ENTRY FEE

$40, or $30 for Artist level OHCA members.
If you pay by credit card a small service fee will be added.

  • Saturday, Sept. 27, 10 am to 1 pm

Pick up times for non-selected work:

  • Thursday, Oct. 2 from 10:30 am to 1 pm
  • Saturday, Oct. 4 from 10:30 am to Noon
  • Saturday, Oct. 11 from 5:00- 6:00pm, after Art Talk

End-of Exhibit Artwork Pick-Up

  • Friday, Nov. 14 from 11 am to 4 pm
  • Saturday, Nov. 15 from 10 am to 1 pm

By submitting artwork to be considered for any Exhibition, Artist understands and agrees to GALLERY POLICIES shown below.

GALLERY POLICIES/REQUIREMENTS
In-Person Gallery Exhibits

By submitting artwork to be considered for any Exhibition, Artist understands and agrees to the following:

  • Participants: Open to all artists age 16 and over.
  • Artwork Eligibility: Works previously shown in the O'Hanlon or Loft Galleries (in-person shows) are not eligible for other in-person shows. The same pieces may be considered for an Online show.
  • Artwork Size: Maximum 40" width for wall hung pieces, including any frame. No height limits for most exhibits. (Note: Size limits may vary for specific exhibits – check the individual Call for Entries for details.)
  • Exhibit Curation: For most exhibits, not all artists will have artwork selected for showing. Final artwork selections are up to the Exhibit Juror(s) and/or Installer/curator, both of which vary from show to show.
  • Exhibit Timeline: Accepted work must remain on view for the duration of the exhibition.
  • Liability/Insurance: While all reasonable care is taken with submitted artwork, OHCA strongly recommends that exhibiting artists carry their own insurance. OHCA and representatives will not assume any liability for any damage or loss.
  • Artwork Sales: Buyers will pay Artist directly for any art sales. Artist agrees to contact OHCA of this sale and make a donation to OHCA of 30% of the sale price, on all sales of artwork within the first 60 days of the exhibition. This includes all artwork exhibited in an OHCA Gallery, in an online OHCA website gallery, and facilitated by OHCA. Donations to OHCA are tax-deductible to the extent permissible by law.
  • Artwork Pricing: Artwork does not need to be for sale. You may mark a piece as NFS (Not For Sale) or POR (Price on Request.)
  • Publicity: By submitting work, artists agree that photographic images and/or video of the artist and/or their artwork, in whole or in part, may be used by OHCA for publicity in various forms including print, online and social media.
  • Newsletter: Artists agree to be added to the O'Hanlon Center Newsletter mailing list, and may unsubscribe at any time.

ABOUT THE JUROR:

Carole Beadle

 

Carole Beadle is a fiber sculptor who pioneered the field and investigated and created art works in most technique areas. She teaches Fiber Sculpture Art at the College of Marin and is Professor Emeritus from the California College of the Arts.  She exhibited nationally and internationally receiving awards, experienced artists in residency in France and Taos NM, and awarded a Fulbright Scholarship in Norway after studying textile with the Scandinavian Seminar for Cultural Studies in Sweden.
