SUMMARY:J. Ruth Gendler Artist's Talk and Reading: The Town of Qualities
DESCRIPTION:Artist’s Talk and Reading: The Town of Qualities\n\nYou are warmly invited to an artist talk and reading where Ruth will read the texts that accompany these monotypes\, elaborate on her lifelong curiosity about Qualities\, her path as an artist and writer “speaking two languages\,” the monotype  printmaking process\, and the power of returning to the Town of Qualities and discovering new residents.\n\n\nIn The Book of Qualities J. Ruth Gendler personified 74 attributes and essences. In the last decade Gendler has been creating a sequel in words and pictures. On display for the first time\, the exhibit “Emotional Geography” includes monotypes of Delight\, Humility\, Anguish\, Gentleness\, Frustration\, Timidity\, Balance\, Elegance\, The Etymology of Grief\, Forest Friends\, and Coherence. \nabout The Book of Qualities  \nThe Book of Qualities has been translated into several languages; quoted in sermons and speeches; featured in psychological journals and educational publications; used as a focus and catalyst for consideration of personification\, metaphoric thought\, and emotional intelligence from second grade classrooms to Yale English classes; given as a gift to wedding guests and hospice caregivers; and adapted for theater and dance in Omaha\, Pasadena\, Seattle and as a children’s ballet in San Diego.

Raised in Mexico\, my first large installation as a teenager was a set of yarn headboards inspired by the Cora Indian technique of yarn appliqué. I spent my summers as an apprentice to a batik artist in Mexico City. \n\n\nTravels and an M.A. in textiles led me to an exciting teaching career at Fort Mason Art Center in San Francisco; art exhibitions\, awards and many trade shows such as the American Craft Council and Rosen throughout the country established my Bonika butlers and benches as a well-known whimsical and functional art form.” \n\n\nhttps://www.mounttamartists.org/projects/bonnie-himberg/

It breeds excitement and enjoyment of the process. \nI like the mix of people and their art. \nIt is free and fun. \nI like that I can get into the flow of art and forget the stressful world. \nI look forward to stepping into another time and place. It is a magical experience to visit this special piece of land at the foot of Mt Tam. \nBeing with people who care about art and artists is something I find worthwhile. I feel lucky to have discovered this class. It informs me well beyond 4 hours on Saturday. \nThis Saturday workshop serves as a tool to open up all of my senses and I  come alive. \nThe setting is gorgeous and serene. \nI love Saturday class. I wouldn’t think of missing it. I come every Saturday\, and have for years and years. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n	\n \n\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Printing with the Press with Jackie La Lanne and Candis Cousins\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n $20.00 – $25.00Price range: $20.00 through $25.00 \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n	\n \n \n \n Member/Non-Member\n \n Choose an optionNon-memberOHCA MemberClear \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n	\n	\n Saturday Perception Workshop quantity\n	\n	\n\n	Add to cart

SUMMARY:DREAMS\, VISIONS and THE CREATIVE EYE with Catherine Flaxman
DESCRIPTION:DREAMS\, VISIONS and THE CREATIVE EYE\n“Mystery is at the heart of creativity.  That\, and surprise.”  Julia Cameron \nPoets\, writers\, visual artists\, and other creatives are invited to attend an afternoon of exploration and creativity\, directly inspired by the art\, DREAMS and VISIONS\, curated and displayed in the Gallery in July. \nBring your iPad\, your notepad\, sketch pad and any favorite supplies\, to reimagine\, refresh or re-ignite your work\, as we explore the larger themes of what constitutes dreams\, visions\, archetypal imagery and “reality.” \nThe instructor will present specific prompts and evocative poetry designed to tap into the mystery of creative expression\, step back from self-judgment\, and awaken fresh perspectives in seeing\, perceiving and creating. \nYou will have an opportunity to share your work in a supportive\, stress free environment. \nThe fee is $40 or $30 for OHCA members. \nCatherine Flaxman\, MA\, LMFT\, is an author\, writer\, screenwriter\, licensed psychotherapist with forty-five years of experience in integrative psychology and a meditation teacher.  A regular presenter at O’Hanlon\, Catherine enjoys creating and facilitating workshops — for the creative journey and the journey of life — that combine her skills in the creative\, contemplative and expressive arts.
