SUMMARY:Intermediate Marbling - Day 2 with Hampton Deck
DESCRIPTION:This workshop is for those with previous marbling experience. (You can take the class the previous day to get that experience!) \nEach student will have their own marbling tray\, set of acrylic paints\, nails\, rakes\, and combs for use during the workshop. The instructor\, Hampton Deck\, will share classic paint patterns and alternate between demonstrating and helping students as they do it themselves. You will produce many beautiful marbled papers for your own pleasure & use! Less emphasis will be put on instruction\, and more on producing marbled papers. The instructor will try to personally help students who need help with technique\, etc. \nPlease bring a lunch and $30 Materials fee to be paid to instructor at start of workshop. \n \nAbout Hampton Deck: \nEducation: I learned to marble from Pamela Smith\, a world renown marbler\, at her studio in Abiqui\, New Mexico\, in July 2015. Pamela has marbled papers in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City.  I have also taken classes with Regina & Dan St John of Chena River Marblers\, who are also world renown marblers\, and who also have papers in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City.  I have also taken Ebru (the Turkish name for marbling) lessons in Istanbul\, Turkey. \nExperience: I set up my own marbling studio in my garage in Benicia\, CA\, shortly after learning the art from Pamela Smith. Since 2015 I have marbled literally thousands of sheets of marbled paper in my studio\, and have taught many classes. In addition to marbling sheets of paper\, I use my marbled paper to cover journals\, datebooks\, address books\, etc.\, to make bookmarks and other paper creations. I also sell sheet of marbled paper.

SUMMARY:Monochrome Magic - Day 2 with Naomi Tamura
DESCRIPTION:Monochrome Magic: A Two-Day Workshop in Expressive Simplicity\nExplore value\, mood\, and material through one color. \nWith Naomi Tamura \nDay 2  \nIn this two-day workshop\, we’ll explore the rich potential of working within a limited palette\, using just one color (and its range of values) to create compelling\, layered works of art. Participants will engage with monochromatic drawing\, painting\, and mixed-media techniques\, incorporating elements such as collage\, texture\, and mark-making to build depth\, evoke emotion\, and create a narrative. \nAfter introducing the fundamentals of monochromatic art\, each artist will be encouraged to select a color to explore and experiment with\, layering visual storytelling using a variety of materials\, including graphite\, ink\, paint\, and found materials. On Day Two\, artists can further work on their selected color or choose a second color to explore abstraction\, mood\, or personal themes in more depth. \nPrice is for both days: $115 or $80 for OHCA members.  $20 materials fee to be paid to the instructors firs day of class. \nGet ready for our November Monochromatic show in the Gallery! \n\n\n\n\n \n

SUMMARY:Monoprint w/ Candis Cousins - October 5
DESCRIPTION:WE ARE OFFERING THIS WORKSHOP TWICE A MONTH \nMonoprinting is a playful\, exploratory process requiring neither a press nor a background in art\n \nOn a plate of gel or plexiglass\, images are made with paint\, rollers\, sponges\, netting\, leaves or anything else which might create an interesting pattern. The focus is not upon the finished work but upon the experience of discovery and making art. \nIn the workshop\, after two or three hours\, the group gathers to discuss what has been created.  The purpose of the discussion is to help each person recognize the beauty in their work. Or\, in the words of Ann O’Hanlon\, our purpose is “to look upon a seemingly random work of our own with interest” and with “the same fulfillment… experienced on an unknown wilderness trail.” \nSundays\, 10 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.\n$55 | $44 OHCA members + \n$10 materials fee paid to facilitator on day of workshop \n7 people MAX\n \nART DETAIL: JANET GREENWOOD\n \n\nAbout Candis Cousins \nCandis Cousins first came to the Center in 1972. Ann O’Hanlon was alive and at that time the Center was called ‘Sight and Insight.’ On Candis’ first day\, Ann’s suggestion for working was this: “Every decision you make\, try to make the wrong decision.” \nIn 2002\, Candis returned to OHCA to join the mono printing group led by Cayen Robertson and Karen Cox. In her own work\, Candis tries to keep moving forward without a plan\, just to see what comes. \n  \n“It is such an invigorating\, soul-finding experience to facilitate this workshop. A love-fest\, a laugh-fest on the high seas of creativity!” \n– Candis \n

SUMMARY:Maria Muldaur in Concert with Neil Fontano
DESCRIPTION:Maria Muldaur in Concert with Neil Fontano\nSunday\, November 9\, 2025Doors 2:30 pm | Show 3:00 pmO’Hanlon Center for the ArtsTickets: $30 | Seating limited to 55 \nO’Hanlon Center is thrilled to welcome local music legend Maria Muldaur for an intimate acoustic concert in our gallery. She’ll be joined by brilliant young piano “hotshot” Neil Fontano for an afternoon of unforgettable music. \nThe concert celebrates the release of Maria’s critically acclaimed 44th album\, One Hour Mama: The Blues of Victoria Spivey\, now topping the Blues Charts. In addition\, Maria and Neil will treat us to a rollicking repertoire of Naughty Bawdy Blues and Swingin’ Syncopated Jazz from the 1920s and ’30s. \nIn Maria’s words: \n“Neil has mastered stride piano & other piano styles of that era with amazing skill\, flair & creativity\, swings his ass off\, & it’s an absolute joy to perform this music with him. This will be a rare & special musical event you won’t want to miss!” \nSeating is limited — reserve your tickets early! \n \n \n \n \n \n About Maria Muldaur: \nMaria Muldaur is best known world-wide for her 1973 mega-hit “Midnight at the Oasis\,” which received several Grammy nominations\, and enshrined her forever in the hearts of Baby Boomers everywhere; but despite her considerable pop music success\, her 60-year career could best be described as a long and adventurous odyssey through the various forms of American Roots Music. \nDuring the Folk Revival of the early ’60s\, she began exploring and singing early Blues\, Bluegrass and Appalachian “Old Timey” Music\, beginning her recording career in 1963 with the Even Dozen Jug Band\, and shortly thereafter joining the very popular Jim Kweskin Jug Band\, touring and recording with them throughout the ’60s. \nIn the 50 years since “Midnight at the Oasis” Maria has toured extensively worldwide and has recorded 44 solo albums covering all kinds of American Roots Music\, including Blues\, Gospel\, R&B\, Jug Band\, Jazz and Big Band (not to mention several award-winning children’s albums). She has now settled comfortably into her favorite idiom\, the Blues. Often joining forces with some of the top names in the business\, Maria has recorded and produced on-average an album per year\, several of which have been nominated for Grammys and other awards.

SUMMARY: Inside JUNK JOURNALING with Peller
DESCRIPTION:Junk journaling is a creative and mindful craft that blends scrapbooking and collaging\, serving as a heartfelt response to the fleeting nature of digital life. In a world dominated by screens and instant communication\, junk journaling invites you to slow down and reconnect with tangible\, physical materials—snipping\, gluing\, and layering to create meaningful art. \nBy transforming everyday “trash” like parking tickets\, luggage tags\, ticket stubs\, or even pieces of pizza boxes into beautiful collages\, you can discover the magic in the overlooked and discarded. It’s a fun challenge to seek out items you might normally toss away and repurpose them into personal journal entries or artistic pieces. \nAdopting a collector’s eye encourages mindfulness and observation\, inspiring you to notice the small ephemera of daily life—receipts\, labels\, snippets of wrapping paper—and see them as treasures waiting to be incorporated into your journal. \nJoin this creative journey to add a little magic and intentionality to your day-to-day life. Embrace the imperfect\, the transient\, and the beautiful in the ordinary through junk journaling—where one person’s junk becomes another’s treasured story. \nJoin me in adding a little magic to your day to day. \n \n

To experiment and discover.\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Thank you to Ann Fricker and Noni Garner for organizing the return to the LOFT Saturdays from 10 am to 2 pm. \nThe morning starts with a simple exercise or prompt that informs the day. \n$30 for non-members and $25 for members. \nMaterials provided or bring your own. \n  \nAttendees must be fully vaccinated and Masks required indoors \nWorkshop will be held in the LOFT \nBeginners Expected! \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n LOVING THE SATURDAY WORKSHOP\nThe long-running Visual Perception Workshop is at the heart of O’Hanlon Center. Recently we asked workshop participants for their thoughts. \nI love doing art with friends…and then sharing it! \nI love that it is a drop-in class andI don’t have to sign up ahead of time. \nI like that I don’t have to know how to do art…It’s about our own creativity. \nIt is so much fun. \nI love the creative atmosphere. It breeds excitement and enjoyment of the process. \nI like the mix of people and their art. \nIt is free and fun. \nI like that I can get into the flow of art and forget the stressful world. \nI look forward to stepping into another time and place. It is a magical experience to visit this special piece of land at the foot of Mt Tam. \nBeing with people who care about art and artists is something I find worthwhile. I feel lucky to have discovered this class. It informs me well beyond 4 hours on Saturday. \nThis Saturday workshop serves as a tool to open up all of my senses and I  come alive. \nThe setting is gorgeous and serene. \nI love Saturday class. I wouldn’t think of missing it. I come every Saturday\, and have for years and years. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n 12th annual Sunday LOVE SALON\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n $25.00 – $30.00Price range: $25.00 through $30.00 \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n	\n \n \n \n Member/Non-Member\n \n Choose an optionNon-memberOHCA MemberClear \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n	\n	\n Saturday Perception Workshop | 2026 quantity\n	\n	\n\n	Add to cart

SUMMARY:Tuesday Perception Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Perception Workshops Description \nThe Perception Workshops at O’Hanlon welcome all artists and the art-curious. Rather than focusing on formal principles or strict rules\, these workshops emphasize curiosity\, exploration\, and creative play. They spark imagination by encouraging learning through doing\, observation\, acceptance\, and practice. Participants are supported in taking risks\, experimenting freely\, and developing their own visual language in an open\, encouraging environment. \nEach session begins with a simple prompt or exercise. From there\, participants may build on their initial ideas or take them in entirely new directions.
