DESCRIPTION:Explore\, experiment\, and discover your unique form of creative expression. \nThe Visual Perception workshops are hands-on creating with materials\, experimenting\, and discovering without dependence on technique. Participants are encouraged to pay attention to what you see\, accept the marks you make\, explore\, experiment\, and discover your unique form of creative expression. \nA simple prompt or exercise is given at the beginning of class. Participants are free to elaborate on their initial efforts or do something else entirely. \nWe end the workshops with a gathering (coming together) of everyone and their work. Participants look\, discuss\, and value the work created. \nMost materials are provided and/or bring your own. \n$25 non-members\n$20 OHCA members \nMasking may be required. DESCRIPTION:Light\, tone\, line\, pattern\, mass\, perspective\, abstraction and composition\nMondays: 4 to 5:30 p.m. \n8-WEEK SERIES #3 2023:\n4/17\, 4/24\, 5/1\, 5/8\, 5/15\, 5/22\, 5/29\, 6/5 \nIn this 8-week series we will use a range of drawing materials. Each class will start with a warmup\, and then focus on translating three dimensional objects to a two-dimensional surface\, focusing on light\, tone\, line\, pattern\, mass\, perspective\, abstraction and composition \nMaximum 8 students \nA materials list will be emailed after registration \n$320 or $256 for OHCA members \n  \n\n \nABOUT LAUREL \nLaurel Shear lives and works in the California Bay Area. She opened her first New York solo show\, Daydreaming In My Nightmare\, at Fort Gansevoort in March 2018. Recent exhibitions include Right Here Right Now\, Richmond Art Center and NIAD (Richmond\, CA) My Silences Had Not Protected Me\, For Freedoms\, Fort Gansevoort\, (New York)\, Where Dreams Come True\, TSA LA (Los Angeles)\, Push\, Incline Gallery (San Francisco). She is a former member of the artist run gallery Tiger Strikes Asteroid in Los Angeles. Press for her work includes Artnet\, New York Magazine\, Brooklyn Magazine\, and Luxe Magazine\, among others. She facilitates drawing and painting workshops at O’Hanlon Center for the Arts and serves on the Board. SUMMARY:Monoprinting w/ CANDIS COUSINS
DESCRIPTION:WE ARE NOW OFFERING THIS WORKSHOP TWICE A MONTH \nMonoprinting is a playful\, exploratory process requiring neither a press nor a background in art\n \nOn a plate of gel or plexiglass\, images are made with paint\, rollers\, sponges\, netting\, leaves or anything else which might create an interesting pattern. The focus is not upon the finished work but upon the experience of discovery and making art. \nIn the workshop\, after two or three hours\, the group gathers to discuss what has been created.  The purpose of the discussion is to help each person recognize the beauty in their work. Or\, in the words of Ann O’Hanlon\, our purpose is “to look upon a seemingly random work of our own with interest” and with “the same fulfillment… experienced on an unknown wilderness trail.” \nSundays\, 10 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.\n$55\, $44 OHCA members\, \n$10 materials fee paid to instructor at day of class \n8 people MAX (online registration closes at 3:00pm the prior Friday)\nParticipants must be fully vaccinated and wear masks. \nART DETAIL: JANET GREENWOOD \n  \n\n  \n \nAbout Candis Cousins \nCandis Cousins first came to the Center in 1972. Ann O’Hanlon was alive and at that time the Center was called ‘Sight and Insight.’ On Candis’ first day\, Ann’s suggestion for working was this: “Every decision you make\, try to make the wrong decision.” \nIn 2002\, Candis returned to OHCA to join the mono printing group led by Cayen Robertson and Karen Cox. In her own work\, Candis tries to keep moving forward without a plan\, just to see what comes. \n“It is such an invigorating\, soul-finding experience to facilitate this workshop. A love-fest\, a laugh-fest on the high seas of creativity!”\n– Candis\n  \n\n
