Participants are supported in taking risks\, experimenting freely\, and developing their own visual language in an open\, encouraging environment. \nEach session begins with a simple prompt or exercise. From there\, participants may build on their initial ideas or take them in entirely new directions. Both projects were juried into the annual O’Hanlon Fiber Arts Show: “Coral Reef”\, exhibited in 2024 and “Wild Garden”\, exhibited in 2025.In addition to crochet\, Sarah enjoys embroidering on paper and fabric\, as well as creating textile collages inspired by traditional quilting. Naomi likes to try all fiber arts\, but mainly crochets\, knits and sews\, when she’s not drawing or painting. Drawing on their distinct passions and skills\, Sarah and Naomi each bring a unique and inspiring stamp to their sewing and stitching projects.

DESCRIPTION:WE ARE OFFERING THIS WORKSHOP TWICE A MONTH \nMonoprinting is a playful\, exploratory process requiring neither a press nor a background in art\n \nOn a plate of gel or plexiglass\, images are made with paint\, rollers\, sponges\, netting\, leaves or anything else which might create an interesting pattern. The focus is not upon the finished work but upon the experience of discovery and making art. \nIn the workshop\, after two or three hours\, the group gathers to discuss what has been created.  The purpose of the discussion is to help each person recognize the beauty in their work. Or\, in the words of Ann O’Hanlon\, our purpose is “to look upon a seemingly random work of our own with interest” and with “the same fulfillment… experienced on an unknown wilderness trail.” \nFirst and Third Sundays\, 10 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.\n$60 | $50 OHCA members + \n$10 materials fee paid to facilitator on day of workshop \n7 people MAX\n \nART DETAIL: JANET GREENWOOD\n \n\nAbout Candis Cousins \nCandis Cousins first came to the Center in 1972. Ann O’Hanlon was alive and at that time the Center was called ‘Sight and Insight.’ On Candis’ first day\, Ann’s suggestion for working was this: “Every decision you make\, try to make the wrong decision.” \nIn 2002\, Candis returned to OHCA to join the mono printing group led by Cayen Robertson and Karen Cox. In her own work\, Candis tries to keep moving forward without a plan\, just to see what comes. \n  \n“It is such an invigorating\, soul-finding experience to facilitate this workshop. Both projects were juried into the annual O’Hanlon Fiber Arts Show: “Coral Reef”\, exhibited in 2024 and “Wild Garden”\, exhibited in 2025.In addition to crochet\, Sarah enjoys embroidering on paper and fabric\, as well as creating textile collages inspired by traditional quilting. Naomi likes to try all fiber arts\, but mainly crochets\, knits and sews\, when she’s not drawing or painting. Drawing on their distinct passions and skills\, Sarah and Naomi each bring a unique and inspiring stamp to their sewing and stitching projects.

DESCRIPTION:WE ARE OFFERING THIS WORKSHOP TWICE A MONTH \nMonoprinting is a playful\, exploratory process requiring neither a press nor a background in art\n \nOn a plate of gel or plexiglass\, images are made with paint\, rollers\, sponges\, netting\, leaves or anything else which might create an interesting pattern. The focus is not upon the finished work but upon the experience of discovery and making art. \nIn the workshop\, after two or three hours\, the group gathers to discuss what has been created.  The purpose of the discussion is to help each person recognize the beauty in their work. Or\, in the words of Ann O’Hanlon\, our purpose is “to look upon a seemingly random work of our own with interest” and with “the same fulfillment… experienced on an unknown wilderness trail.” \nFirst and Third Sundays\, 10 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.\n$60 | $50 OHCA members + \n$10 materials fee paid to facilitator on day of workshop \n7 people MAX\n \nART DETAIL: JANET GREENWOOD\n \n\nAbout Candis Cousins \nCandis Cousins first came to the Center in 1972. Ann O’Hanlon was alive and at that time the Center was called ‘Sight and Insight.’ On Candis’ first day\, Ann’s suggestion for working was this: “Every decision you make\, try to make the wrong decision.” \nIn 2002\, Candis returned to OHCA to join the mono printing group led by Cayen Robertson and Karen Cox. In her own work\, Candis tries to keep moving forward without a plan\, just to see what comes. \n  \n“It is such an invigorating\, soul-finding experience to facilitate this workshop. In the expanse of time\, the quiet and the connection to friends working nearby\, my confidence and powers of insight are strengthened.”\n   – Candis Cousins \nMonday to Friday\,\nMarch 16 – 20\n9 a.m. to 5 p.m. \nOHCA is once again offering a week-long ARTIST RETREAT.  \nThis is a 5-day opportunity for artists to work independently but in the company of other dedicated artists. This is not a workshop\, and there will be no instruction. DESCRIPTION:Tuesday Perception is canceled this week to allow the space for the Artist Retreat. We will resume Tuesday\, March 24. Don’t forget to reserve your spot! See you soon! \nExplore\, experiment\, and discover your unique form of creative expression. \nThe Visual Perception workshops are hands-on creating with materials\, experimenting\, and discovering without dependence on technique. Participants are encouraged to pay attention to what you see\, accept the marks you make\, explore\, experiment\, and discover your unique form of creative expression. \nA simple prompt or exercise is given at the beginning of class. Participants are free to elaborate on their initial efforts or do something else entirely. \nWe end the workshops with a gathering (coming together) of everyone and their work. Participants look\, discuss\, and value the work created. \nMost materials are provided and/or bring your own. \n$30 non-members | $25 OHCA members \nMembers may prepay for 10 sessions for just $200. This week in the Gallery! \nThis is all about the joy of creating in community at O’Hanlon.  Gather your supplies (paper scraps\, magazines\, ideas) and join a friendly group of makers. DESCRIPTION:Every other Wednesday Cayen and Candis are offering a Zoomed art talk! \nUsing Ann O’Hanlon’s book\, seeing/perception\, as inspiration\, Cayen and Candis lead discussions of what we see when we look at the artworks of others or our own. \n11:30 am to 1:30 pm \nLimited number of participants. \nContact Cayen if you are interested in joining the group to get on the wait list: cayenr@comcast.net \n  \n  \nCayen Robertson is an active visual artist working in paper and inks. She has been a long time facilitator at the O’Hanlon Center and loves talking with people about their art. \nCandis Cousins works in monoprint\, collage and drawing. For twelve years she was in the monoprint workshop led by Cayen Robertson. When Cayen stepped down five years ago\, Candis began facilitating the workshop.
