She is currently Board President of of O’Hanlon. She graduated from Sonoma State University with a Bachelor’s of Fine Arts in Studio Art and a Masters Degree in Art Education. She loves teaching art and making photographs\, which she says have a lot in common: discovering\, making\, envisioning\, sharing\, and having fun. La Lanne\, who can often be found in the artroom wearing the earrings she made from her old bike lock keys\, has been teaching elementary art curriculum in Mill Valley public schools for many years. She is an accomplished artist\, teacher\, and photographer and has created wonderful collaborative textile projects for her five grandchildren.\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n ABOUT THE FACILITATOR\nCandis Cousins first came to the Center in 1972. Ann O’Hanlon was alive and at that time the Center was called ‘Sight and Insight.’ On Candis’ first day\, Ann’s suggestion for working was this: “Every decision you make\, try to make the wrong decision.” \nIn 2002\, Candis returned to OHCA to join the mono printing group led by Cayen Robertson and Karen Cox. In her own work\, Candis tries to keep moving forward without a plan\, just to see what comes. \n“It is such an invigorating\, soul-finding experience to facilitate this workshop. A love-fest\, a laugh-fest on the high seas of creativity!” \n– Candis

SUMMARY:Inside JUNK JOURNALING with Peller
DESCRIPTION:Junk journaling is a creative and mindful craft that blends scrapbooking and collaging\, serving as a heartfelt response to the fleeting nature of digital life. In a world dominated by screens and instant communication\, junk journaling invites you to slow down and reconnect with tangible\, physical materials—snipping\, gluing\, and layering to create meaningful art. \nBy transforming everyday “trash” like parking tickets\, luggage tags\, ticket stubs\, or even pieces of pizza boxes into beautiful collages\, you can discover the magic in the overlooked and discarded. It’s a fun challenge to seek out items you might normally toss away and repurpose them into personal journal entries or artistic pieces. \nAdopting a collector’s eye encourages mindfulness and observation\, inspiring you to notice the small ephemera of daily life—receipts\, labels\, snippets of wrapping paper—and see them as treasures waiting to be incorporated into your journal. \nJoin this creative journey to add a little magic and intentionality to your day-to-day life. Embrace the imperfect\, the transient\, and the beautiful in the ordinary through junk journaling—where one person’s junk becomes another’s treasured story. \nJoin me in adding a little magic to your day to day. \nLoft Gallery | 1 – 3:30 PM\nMax. 8 participants \n \n

SUMMARY:Monoprint - June 7
DESCRIPTION:WE ARE OFFERING THIS WORKSHOP TWICE A MONTH \nMonoprinting is a playful\, exploratory process requiring neither a press nor a background in art\n \nOn a plate of gel or plexiglass\, images are made with paint\, rollers\, sponges\, netting\, leaves or anything else which might create an interesting pattern. The focus is not upon the finished work but upon the experience of discovery and making art. \nIn the workshop\, after two or three hours\, the group gathers to discuss what has been created.  The purpose of the discussion is to help each person recognize the beauty in their work. Or\, in the words of Ann O’Hanlon\, our purpose is “to look upon a seemingly random work of our own with interest” and with “the same fulfillment… experienced on an unknown wilderness trail.” \nFirst and Third Sundays\, 10 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.\n$60 | $50 OHCA members + \n$10 materials fee paid to facilitator on day of workshop \n6 people MAX\n \nART DETAIL: JANET GREENWOOD\n \n\nAbout Candis Cousins \nCandis Cousins first came to the Center in 1972.
