SUMMARY:Monoprinting with Candis Cousins
DESCRIPTION:Monoprinting is a playful\, exploratory process requiring neither a press nor a background in art\n \nOn a plate of gel or plexiglass\, images are made with paint\, rollers\, sponges\, netting\, leaves or anything else which might create an interesting pattern. The focus is not upon the finished work but upon the experience of discovery and making art. \nIn the workshop\, after two or three hours\, the group gathers to discuss what has been created.  The purpose of the discussion is to help each person recognize the beauty in their work. Or\, in the words of Ann O’Hanlon\, our purpose is “to look upon a seemingly random work of our own with interest” and with “the same fulfillment… experienced on an unknown wilderness trail.” \n Some Sundays\, 10 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.\n$60 | $50 OHCA members + \n$10 materials fee paid to facilitator on day of workshop \n6 people MAX \n\nAbout Candis Cousins \nCandis Cousins first came to the Center in 1972. Ann O’Hanlon was alive and at that time the Center was called ‘Sight and Insight.’ On Candis’ first day\, Ann’s suggestion for working was this: “Every decision you make\, try to make the wrong decision.” \nIn 2002\, Candis returned to OHCA to join the mono printing group led by Cayen Robertson and Karen Cox. In her own work\, Candis tries to keep moving forward without a plan\, just to see what comes. \n  \n“It is such an invigorating\, soul-finding experience to facilitate this workshop. A love-fest\, a laugh-fest on the high seas of creativity!” \n– Candis \n

Youth ages 12–17 are invited to participate with an accompanying adult \n\nAdults:$55 OHCA members / $65 non-members + $15 materials\nAges 12–17:$30 + $15 materials\nChildren under 18 participate with an accompanying adult\n\nMaterials fee to be paid to instructor at start of workshop. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \nWorkshop Flow \n\n\n1:00–1:20 — Welcome + inspiration. Introduce embossing and show a few finished examples. Talk briefly about symbols: family\, home\, ancestry\, gratitude\, nature\, traditions\, place. Invite participants to think about “What—or who—has left an impression on you? \n\n\n1:20–1:40 — Design. Participants sketch their idea on paper first. Provide a sheet of simple visual motifs—botanicals\, stars\, sun/moon\, hearts\, houses\, hands\, birds\, geometric borders\, initials\, etc.—for anyone intimidated by drawing. Tracing should absolutely be allowed. \n\n\n1:40–2:00 — Embossing demonstration. Show tooling metal over foam\, working front/back to create raised and recessed areas\, line weight\, repeated patterns and texture. Include the wonderful discovery that pressure creates dimension. \n\n\n2:00–2:45 — First work session. Transfer designs and emboss. You circulate and help people troubleshoot. \n\n\n2:45–2:55 — Break. Tea\, coffee\, perhaps something very simple and Thanksgiving-ish. This is also a natural time for people to wander around and see what others are making. \n\n\n2:55–3:35 — Finish + embellish. Refine embossing and optionally add patina/color with permanent markers or acrylics. Mount pieces onto mat board\, small wood panels\, or turn smaller works into ornaments/hanging pieces. \n\n\n3:35–3:55 — Make it a keepsake. Add a name\, date\, dedication\, short message or handwritten note on the reverse. Anyone making a gift can package it simply in tissue/kraft paper. \n\n\n3:55–4:00 — Gather the work. Put everything together briefly for an informal “family table” display and photograph it. No forced sharing or explaining—just enjoy what everyone made \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Laura Jiménez Diecks is a visual artist working across photography\, digital collage\, and mixed media.  \n \nWith a background in art\, design\, and visual storytelling\, her work explores themes of memory\, identity\, cultural heritage\, and belonging through layered imagery and experimental techniques. \nHer work embraces the interplay of materials\, textures\, and processes\, from photographic transfers and collage to tactile explorations such as metal embossing. SUMMARY:Photo Transfer with Margot Hartford - Saturday\, December 12
