SUMMARY:Artists Retreat - Winter 2024
DESCRIPTION:“OHCA retreats offer a rare\, deepening experience. In the expanse of time\, the quiet and the connection to friends working nearby\, my confidence and powers of insight are strengthened.”\n   – Candis Cousins \nMonday to Friday\,\nFebruary 19–23\, 2024\n9 a.m. to 5 p.m. \nOHCA is once again offering a week-long ARTIST RETREAT. \nThis is a 5-day opportunity for artists to work independently but in the company of other dedicated artists. This is not a workshop\, and there will be no instruction. What there will be is an opportunity for serious self-directed artists to work in a quiet atmosphere for a sustained period of time\, working together but independently in the spirit of creativity. \nThe Retreat is open to anyone who agrees to some simple rules: \n\nThere is to be no talking except for quietly outside during the hours of 9-5. \nNo music is allowed except with earphones. \nNo visitors. \nParticipants will be responsible for their own lunch and art supplies unless otherwise designated. \nArtists may leave their supplies and work set up during the week and will be required to clean up afterwards.\n\nSpace is limited to 5 visual artists and 1 writer.\nSpace allocations will be determined by the group. \nFriday afternoon everyone gets together to socialize and share their work/process. \n  \nWeek-long retreat: $180 | $150 OHCA members. \n  \n  \n  \nPhotos: Janet Greenwood

SUMMARY:Coral Reef Exploration
DESCRIPTION:Join Sarah McNeil and Jackie La Lanne to explore making some fun coral reef creations. \nInspired by crocheted coral reefs made from fiber\, we will give you the tools to explore making 3-D hyperbolic shapes\, which resemble the structures of coral and other structures found in nature. \nAlternatively\, work with felting and other materials to simply explore making “things” that live in our oceans’ treasures. \nWe are hoping that perhaps some of the creations could become part of an entry for the OHCA fiber exhibit in May. \n  \nMaterials: Use the supplies of yarn\, crochet needles\, felt\, and other items that we’ll have on hand. \nPlease also feel free to bring with you any cast-off yarn or other materials that you might like to work with. \nHere is a link to the crochet coral reef project which is serving as inspiration.https://www.margaretwertheim.com/crochet-coral-reef \n\n  \nMarch 15\, Noon to 2:00FREE RSVP or just drop in!

He has been marbling ever since in the marbling studio he built in his garage. \nHe loves to introduce this amazing and addictive art process to others. He covers datebooks\, journals\, blank books and the like with his marbled paper. \nHampton grew up in the Southern United States\, studied engineering in college\, moved to the San Francisco Bay Area in 1988 and has just retired from being a Presbyterian minister for the past 35+ years. He is married and has 4 grown children. He loves to tell stories\, practice spirituality\, backpack in Yosemite in the summer\, ride his bike and marble paper!

Using natural products extracted from the earth and plants\, heat\, and water\, she breathes new life into fabrics and paper for rebirth and reuse\, telling a new story of connection between place\, fiber\, and person. \nShe believes that hand marked fiber is ‘everyday art’ and can heal the body and spirit. \nwww.tftextileart.com
