Naomi likes to try all fiber arts\, but mainly crochets\, knits and sews\, when she’s not drawing or painting. Drawing on their distinct passions and skills\, Sarah and Naomi each bring a unique and inspiring stamp to their sewing and stitching projects.

In this hands-on workshop\, you’ll learn the basics of the process\, explore how contemporary and historical artists have incorporated cyanotype into their practices\, and create your own prints on a variety of surfaces\, not just paper. First developed in 1842\, cyanotype has been used by artists\, botanists\, and architects for nearly two centuries. Carve into plexiglass from a drawing and make a one-of-a-kind print. Make a collage\, ink and print a collagraph. She is currently Board President of of O’Hanlon. She graduated from Sonoma State University with a Bachelor’s of Fine Arts in Studio Art and a Masters Degree in Art Education. She loves teaching art and making photographs\, which she says have a lot in common: discovering\, making\, envisioning\, sharing\, and having fun. La Lanne\, who can often be found in the artroom wearing the earrings she made from her old bike lock keys\, has been teaching elementary art curriculum in Mill Valley public schools for many years. She is an accomplished artist\, teacher\, and photographer and has created wonderful collaborative textile projects for her five grandchildren.\n			\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n			\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				ABOUT THE FACILITATOR\nCandis Cousins first came to the Center in 1972. Both projects were juried into the annual O’Hanlon Fiber Arts Show: “Coral Reef”\, exhibited in 2024 and “Wild Garden”\, exhibited in 2025.In addition to crochet\, Sarah enjoys embroidering on paper and fabric\, as well as creating textile collages inspired by traditional quilting. Naomi likes to try all fiber arts\, but mainly crochets\, knits and sews\, when she’s not drawing or painting. Drawing on their distinct passions and skills\, Sarah and Naomi each bring a unique and inspiring stamp to their sewing and stitching projects.

DESCRIPTION:Based on a True Story: Developing Memories Into Literaturewith Bart Schneider\n				\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				Bringing the tools of poetry and fiction to memoir. \n6 Wednesdays – 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM \nMany folks are drawn to the idea of writing a memoir but find the notion of composing a book-length account daunting. This class will encourage writing from personal experience in a variety of forms and lengths\, will introduce a range of narrative approaches\, and explore methods for developing a germ of memory into a substantial form. We will also consider the ethical concerns of taking liberty with “the facts” to enhance the story\, (or how much poetic license will the puritanical worm in your brain allow?) The instructor will introduce literary examples and offer prompts for in-class writing. DESCRIPTION:Based on a True Story: Developing Memories Into Literaturewith Bart Schneider\n				\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				Bringing the tools of poetry and fiction to memoir. \n6 Wednesdays – 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM \nMany folks are drawn to the idea of writing a memoir but find the notion of composing a book-length account daunting. This class will encourage writing from personal experience in a variety of forms and lengths\, will introduce a range of narrative approaches\, and explore methods for developing a germ of memory into a substantial form. We will also consider the ethical concerns of taking liberty with “the facts” to enhance the story\, (or how much poetic license will the puritanical worm in your brain allow?) The instructor will introduce literary examples and offer prompts for in-class writing. DESCRIPTION:Shibori Dyeing WorkshopFacilitated by Local artist and educator Chris Hurwitz\n				\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				Explore indigo blue-dyeing methods popularized in Japan in this hands-on workshop. \nParticipants will bring their own prewashed\, 100% cotton\, silk\, or linen items to dye\, such as a T-shirt\, scarf\, baby clothes\, table napkins\, or pillow covers. Please bring small items that will fit in the communal dye bath. Chris will also provide items to be dyed for the Bazaar sale. \nDharma Trading Co. in San Rafael is a wonderful local resource for natural-fiber white clothing and other items to dye. \nBring a sack lunch to enjoy while your projects soak. Wear old clothes or dark colors. Rubber gloves will be provided. \nThe workshop is limited to 10 participants\, ages 12 and up\, with or without previous experience. DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, November 14\, 2026 10AM – 2PM \n\nSuminagashi\, or “floating ink”\, is an ancient and meditative Japanese water marbling technique. In this one-day workshop\, participants will learn paper\, ink\, and brush techniques to create a series of uniquely marbled prints on kozo papers. Students will leave with a collection of prints to use for further drawing or printing\, or as standalone works of art. DESCRIPTION:Sunday\, November 15\, 2026 10AM – 2PM \n\n\nGilding is the process of applying metal leaf to a surface. In this one-day workshop\, students will learn the basics of gilding using copper leaf and explore its application on a variety of surfaces including paper\, wood\, and stone. This contemporary approach to an ancient technique offers a painterly way to incorporate metal leaf into gifts\, fine art\, and beyond.
