SUMMARY:Monoprint - March 15
DESCRIPTION:WE ARE OFFERING THIS WORKSHOP TWICE A MONTH \nMonoprinting is a playful\, exploratory process requiring neither a press nor a background in art\n \nOn a plate of gel or plexiglass\, images are made with paint\, rollers\, sponges\, netting\, leaves or anything else which might create an interesting pattern. The focus is not upon the finished work but upon the experience of discovery and making art. \nIn the workshop\, after two or three hours\, the group gathers to discuss what has been created.  The purpose of the discussion is to help each person recognize the beauty in their work. Or\, in the words of Ann O’Hanlon\, our purpose is “to look upon a seemingly random work of our own with interest” and with “the same fulfillment… experienced on an unknown wilderness trail.” \nFirst and Third Sundays\, 10 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.\n$60 | $50 OHCA members + \n$10 materials fee paid to facilitator on day of workshop \n7 people MAX\n \nART DETAIL: JANET GREENWOOD\n \n\nAbout Candis Cousins \nCandis Cousins first came to the Center in 1972. Ann O’Hanlon was alive and at that time the Center was called ‘Sight and Insight.’ On Candis’ first day\, Ann’s suggestion for working was this: “Every decision you make\, try to make the wrong decision.” \nIn 2002\, Candis returned to OHCA to join the mono printing group led by Cayen Robertson and Karen Cox. In her own work\, Candis tries to keep moving forward without a plan\, just to see what comes. \n  \n“It is such an invigorating\, soul-finding experience to facilitate this workshop. A love-fest\, a laugh-fest on the high seas of creativity!” \n– Candis \n

SUMMARY:Artist Retreat - Spring 2026
DESCRIPTION:“OHCA retreats offer a rare\, deepening experience. In the expanse of time\, the quiet and the connection to friends working nearby\, my confidence and powers of insight are strengthened.”\n   – Candis Cousins \nMonday to Friday\,\nMarch 16 – 20\n9 a.m. to 5 p.m. \nOHCA is once again offering a week-long ARTIST RETREAT. \nThis is a 5-day opportunity for artists to work independently but in the company of other dedicated artists. This is not a workshop\, and there will be no instruction. What there will be is an opportunity for serious self-directed artists to work in a quiet atmosphere for a sustained period of time\, working together but independently in the spirit of creativity. \nThe Retreat is open to anyone who agrees to some simple rules: \n\nThere is to be no talking except for quietly outside during the hours of 9-5. \nNo music is allowed except with earphones. \nNo visitors. \nParticipants will be responsible for their own lunch and art supplies unless otherwise designated. \nArtists may leave their supplies and work set up during the week and will be required to clean up afterwards.\n\nSpace is limited to 5 visual artists and 1 writer.\nSpace allocations will be determined by the group. \nFriday afternoon everyone gets together to socialize and share their work/process. \n  \nWeek-long retreat: $200 | $170 OHCA members. \n  \n  \n  \nPhotos: Janet Greenwood

SUMMARY:Saturday Perception
DESCRIPTION:One of the core principles Ann O’Hanlon stressed was learning how to seeFor over 35 years – Saturdays have been a time to put that into practice. To experiment and discover.\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Perception Workshops \nThe Perception Workshops at O’Hanlon welcome all artists and the art-curious. Rather than focusing on formal principles or strict rules\, these workshops emphasize curiosity\, exploration\, and creative play. They spark imagination by encouraging learning through doing\, observation\, acceptance\, and practice. Participants are supported in taking risks\, experimenting freely\, and developing their own visual language in an open\, encouraging environment. \nEach session begins with a simple prompt or exercise. From there\, participants may build on their initial ideas or take them in entirely new directions. At the end\, the group comes together to share discoveries through looking\, reflection\, and discussion\, celebrating the process as much as the result. \nMost materials are provided\, but participants are welcome to bring their own. \nSaturday Perception \nWhen: First & Third Saturday 10 am – 2 pm \nCost: \n\n$30.00 Non-members\n$25.00 Members or Members can purchase a 10x card for $200\n+$5.00 Materials fee\n\nSign Up Today – Enroll in the workshop below \nBeginners Welcome! \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n LOVING THE SATURDAY WORKSHOP\nThe long-running Visual Perception Workshop is at the heart of O’Hanlon Center. Recently we asked workshop participants for their thoughts. \nI love doing art with friends…and then sharing it! \nI love that it is a drop-in class and\nI don’t have to sign up ahead of time. \nI like that I don’t have to know how to do art…\nIt’s about our own creativity. \nIt is so much fun. \nI love the creative atmosphere. It breeds excitement and enjoyment of the process. \nI like the mix of people and their art. \nIt is free and fun. \nI like that I can get into the flow of art and forget the stressful world. \nI look forward to stepping into another time and place. It is a magical experience to visit this special piece of land at the foot of Mt Tam. \nBeing with people who care about art and artists is something I find worthwhile. I feel lucky to have discovered this class. It informs me well beyond 4 hours on Saturday. \nThis Saturday workshop serves as a tool to open up all of my senses and I  come alive. \nThe setting is gorgeous and serene. \nI love Saturday class. I wouldn’t think of missing it. I come every Saturday\, and have for years and years.\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Surprise Yourself – Creation and Perception w/ CANDIS & CAYEN\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n $25.00 – $30.00Price range: $25.00 through $30.00 \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n	\n \n \n \n Member/Non-Member\n \n Choose an optionNon-memberOHCA MemberClear \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n	\n	\n Saturday Perception Workshop | 2026 quantity\n	\n	\n\n	Add to cart

SUMMARY:Photo Transfer Workshop - Margot Harford
DESCRIPTION:Photo Transfer WorkshopFacilitated by Margot Harford\n \n \n \n \n \n \n Saturday\, April 25 | 11 AM – 4 PM \nThis workshop introduces the technique of image transfers — a process that allows you to move your digital files (photographs\, graphics\, or text) onto a variety of surfaces\, in either color or black and white. \nUsing transfer film printed with an inkjet printer and a specially prepared paste\, you’ll learn how to transfer your images onto surfaces such as paper\, wood\, metal\, and fabric. \nPrior to the class\, you will send the instructor eight of your own photographs (iPhone images are perfectly fine). These will be printed and prepared in advance so you’re ready to begin working as soon as the workshop starts. \nDuring the session\, we’ll cover essential materials\, where to source them\, and how to use them effectively. While you will be transferring onto paper and wood in class\, we will also discuss additional surface possibilities so you can continue experimenting on your own. \nFee: $275 Non-Members | $220 OHCA MembersMaterials Fee: $25 (payable to instructor) \nMaximum: 10 participants \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n About Margot Harford \nMargot’s work is a mixture of fine art photography\, photo transfers and collage. The constant thread in her work is the addition of images using the photographs she has taken. \nAs a freelance photographer Margot has been photographing people and interiors for over 20 years. Her commercial photography style has seeped into her choice of fine art photography subjects\, which include people and architecture. \nMargot’s is represented by the Portland Art Gallery in Portland\, Maine. \nVisit her page: https://www.margothartford.com \n

SUMMARY:Based on a True Story: Developing Memories into Literature - with Bart Schneider
DESCRIPTION:Based on a True Story: Developing Memories Into Literaturewith Bart Schneider\n \n \n \n \n \n \n Bringing the tools of poetry and fiction to memoir. \nMany folks are drawn to the idea of writing a memoir but find the notion of composing a book-length account daunting. This class will encourage writing from personal experience in a variety of forms and lengths\, will introduce a range of narrative approaches\, and explore methods for developing a germ of memory into a substantial form. We will also consider the ethical concerns of taking liberty with “the facts” to enhance the story\, (or how much poetic license will the puritanical worm in your brain allow?) The instructor will introduce literary examples and offer prompts for in-class writing. Participants will be invited to share their in-class writing as well as their writing from home. \nIn addition to writing implements please bring memories and stories to the gathering. \n4 Wednesdays in May – 11 am to 1 pm \n$140\, $115 OHCA Members \nMax 8 participants \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n About Bart: \nBart Schneider is the author of six novels\, including Blue Bossa\, a finalist for the Los Angeles Times Book Prize\, and Secret Love\, a New York Times Notable Book of the Year. Bart presented his novel Giacometti’s Last Ride at OHCA in 2026 with artist Chester Arnold. Schneider is also the author of three volumes of poetry and the publisher of Kelly’s Cove Press.  \nVisit: https://www.kellyscovepress.com/bart-schneider/

SUMMARY:Monoprint - June 7
Or\, in the words of Ann O’Hanlon\, our purpose is “to look upon a seemingly random work of our own with interest” and with “the same fulfillment… experienced on an unknown wilderness trail.” \nFirst and Third Sundays\, 10 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.\n$60 | $50 OHCA members + \n$10 materials fee paid to facilitator on day of workshop \n6 people MAX\n \nART DETAIL: JANET GREENWOOD\n \n\nAbout Candis Cousins \nCandis Cousins first came to the Center in 1972.
