DESCRIPTION:Solstice Celebration at O'Hanlon Center for the ArtsWith Nina Wise\n				\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				 \n\nSaturday\, June 20 – 7:30 PM \nDoors open at 7O’Hanlon Gallery \n\n\nJoin us for an evening in celebration of the solstice\, marking the longest day of the year.  \nTogether we will mark the turning of the sun through guided meditation\, meaningful ritual\, uplifting chants and songs that calm the mind\, quiet the heart and uplift the spirit.  The evening will unfold as a time to pause\, reflect\, and align with the fullness of light within and around us.   \nThe evening will also be a celebration of Nina’s recently released album By This Light\, Nina’s debut album of chants and blessings. Through the hands of world renown producer of spiritual music\, Ben Leinback\, and featuring some of the Bay Area’s finest instrumentalists and vocalists\, By This Light\, blends the wisdom of Buddhist teachings with the joy of kirtan\, the uplifting rhythms of world music\, and the trance inducing power of layered vocal harmonies. \nThis is a relaxed\, participatory gathering. All are welcome. No prior mediation of chanting experience is necessary.  Come as you are and join in as you feel comfortable as we gather in community to honor the solstice \nTickets: $25Advanced sales end June 19 at 3pm.  Some tickets will be available at the door starting at 7:00 PM. \n\n			\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				About the Artists: \nSince earning her degree in Religious Studies and the Aesthetics of Movement\, Nina Wise has devoted her career to developing theater and writing stories that address the complex relationship between body\, intellect\, and spirit.  Her original works\, performed in prestigious venues in the United States\, South America\, Europe and Asia have won awards for playwriting\, innovative design\, and new theater including three NEA fellowships and seven Bay Area Theater Critics Awards. Her book\, A Big New Free Happy Unusual Life\, was published by Broadway Books and her stories and articles have appeared in numerous anthologies and journals.  \nWise’s immersive theater piece The Kepler Story\, created in collaboration with California Academy of Sciences Morrison Planetarium\, is the first theater piece ever created about an astronomer for domes. The production played to sold out crowds at  Morrison Planetarium in San Francisco and the Fiske Planetarium\, UC Boulder and is currently in development for a world tour.  \nThe founder of Motion Theater®\, an original form of autobiographical improvisation\, Nina offers performances and trainings in this unique form of authentic self-expression. She has performed custom-designed improvised works at theaters\, think tanks\, conferences\, medical institutions\, and political events around the world. \nAs an artist and teacher who specializes in innovation\, she has coached numerous individuals and teams in creativity\, the cultivation of presence\, stress reduction\, communication and leadership. She is a recent Board President of of O’Hanlon. She graduated from Sonoma State University with a Bachelor’s of Fine Arts in Studio Art and a Masters Degree in Art Education. She loves teaching art and making photographs\, which she says have a lot in common: discovering\, making\, envisioning\, sharing\, and having fun. La Lanne\, who can often be found in the artroom wearing the earrings she made from her old bike lock keys\, has been teaching elementary art curriculum in Mill Valley public schools for many years. She is an accomplished artist\, teacher\, and photographer and has created wonderful collaborative textile projects for her five grandchildren.\n			\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n			\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				Laurel Shear \nLaurel Shear lives and works in the California Bay Area. She opened her first New York solo show\, Daydreaming In My Nightmare\, at Fort Gansevoort in March 2018. Recent exhibitions include Right Here Right Now\, Richmond Art Center and NIAD (Richmond\, CA) My Silences Had Not Protected Me\, For Freedoms\, Fort Gansevoort\, (New York)\, Where Dreams Come True\, TSA LA (Los Angeles)\, Push\, Incline Gallery (San Francisco). She is a former member of the artist run gallery Tiger Strikes Asteroid in Los Angeles. Press for her work includes Artnet\, New York Magazine\, Brooklyn Magazine\, and Luxe Magazine\, among others. She facilitates drawing and painting workshops at O’Hanlon Center for the Arts and serves on the Board.
