DESCRIPTION:Novelist Bart Schneider will present his new book Giacometti’s Last Ride\, with artist/collaborator Chester Arnold\, in an hour of readings and images from the novel\, followed by time for a Q&A. This is the second collaboration for Schneider and Arnold\, following their 2022 book of poetry and paintings about food\, The Daily Feast. The two longtime friends get together regularly to discuss the corollaries between art and writing. They are now plotting their next collaboration. Books will be on sale at the event. \nBart Schneider is the author of six novels\, including Blue Bossa\, a finalist for the Los Angeles Times Book Prize\, and Secret Love\, a New York Times Notable Book of the Year. He has performed with Chick Corea\, Ramsey Lewis\, Kenny Barron\, Paquito D’Rivera\, and he is a member of Bob Weir & Wolf Bros\, appearing on three album releases from Red Rocks and Radio City Music Hall. This intimate configuration distills the collective’s expansive sound into a focused\, ethereal experience—lush\, rhythmic\, and deeply immersive. \nPiwai & Mystic Gong is an Afro-jazz fusion ensemble led by Zimbabwean vocalist\, mbira player\, and percussionist Piwai\, whose hypnotic sound has been described as spiritual nirvana. Blending jazz\, reggae\, folk\, and Southern African rhythms\, Piwai creates trance-like\, soul-centered performances that invite deep listening and connection. \nBorn and raised in Zimbabwe\, Piwai has collaborated with Grammy-winning artist Fantastic Negrito on the album Last Days of Oakland.
