This intimate configuration distills the collective’s expansive sound into a focused\, ethereal experience—lush\, rhythmic\, and deeply immersive. \nPiwai & Mystic Gong is an Afro-jazz fusion ensemble led by Zimbabwean vocalist\, mbira player\, and percussionist Piwai\, whose hypnotic sound has been described as spiritual nirvana. Blending jazz\, reggae\, folk\, and Southern African rhythms\, Piwai creates trance-like\, soul-centered performances that invite deep listening and connection. \nBorn and raised in Zimbabwe\, Piwai has collaborated with Grammy-winning artist Fantastic Negrito on the album Last Days of Oakland.
