She also has published a hybrid collection of craft essays\, writing exercises\, and poems titled Library of Small Happiness and a recent chapbook titled Self Portrait as Vanishing Act\, a playful collection of self-portraits as non-human phenomena. Professor Emerita at U.T.-El Paso\, where she taught for 27 years. She also taught for over 40 years in the low-residency MFA program at Vermont College of the Fine Arts. Her awards include the Yale Series of Younger Poets Award\, the Iowa Poetry Prize\, two NEA fellowships\, and a New Mexico/Arizona Book Award for poetry. Albert is also the author of the memoir Beamish Boy\, which was named a “Best Book of 2012” by Kirkus Reviews. His latest nonfiction book\, Writing as a Path to Awakening: A Year to Becoming an Excellent Writer and Living an Awakened Life—based on his popular writing workshops by the same name—was published by Sounds True in 2017. DESCRIPTION:Based on a True Story: Developing Memories Into Literaturewith Bart Schneider\n				\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				Bringing the tools of poetry and fiction to memoir. \n6 Wednesdays – 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM \nMany folks are drawn to the idea of writing a memoir but find the notion of composing a book-length account daunting. This class will encourage writing from personal experience in a variety of forms and lengths\, will introduce a range of narrative approaches\, and explore methods for developing a germ of memory into a substantial form. We will also consider the ethical concerns of taking liberty with “the facts” to enhance the story\, (or how much poetic license will the puritanical worm in your brain allow?) The instructor will introduce literary examples and offer prompts for in-class writing. DESCRIPTION:Based on a True Story: Developing Memories Into Literaturewith Bart Schneider\n				\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				Bringing the tools of poetry and fiction to memoir. \n6 Wednesdays – 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM \nMany folks are drawn to the idea of writing a memoir but find the notion of composing a book-length account daunting. This class will encourage writing from personal experience in a variety of forms and lengths\, will introduce a range of narrative approaches\, and explore methods for developing a germ of memory into a substantial form. We will also consider the ethical concerns of taking liberty with “the facts” to enhance the story\, (or how much poetic license will the puritanical worm in your brain allow?) The instructor will introduce literary examples and offer prompts for in-class writing.
