“I have loved sending/receiving mail since I was a kid living in a small town with not many close-by friends. I loved thick, non-white writing papers and the lined envelopes that I saw and purchased at Wanamaker’s Department Store in Philadelphia on those rare occasions when my Mom and I, and later my sister, took the train “to the dentist” who did not use anesthetic! My Dad had been interested in collecting stamps when he was growing up and took me to visit a philatelist a one point, which really piqued my interest in stamps, though I never got into collecting seriously, I just looked at them for subject matter and color and still do. I think some stamps can be enhanced visually by a collage placement either under or beside the glued stamp from the Post Office. And I think that the outside of an envelope makes a difference to a recipient, it begins to tell a story.” –Elaine
