“Red”
February 7 - February 28, 2012
First Tuesday Opening Reception, February 7, 6 to 8 p.m.
On Tuesday, February 7, from 6 to 8 p.m., O’Hanlon Center for the Arts will present an open house and reception for its February exhibit “Red,” juried by artist and alchemist Toni Littlejohn. The show runs through February 28, 2012.
Join O’Hanlon Center in an exhibit celebrating all things “Red”! Artists who optimize its vibrancy in their work will have their pieces on display. The connotations are endless: “Red” could mean guilt, sin, passion, or anger. It represents sex, lust, passion, love, hope, happiness, and beauty; but also blood, danger, sacrifice, courage, valor, and loyalty. To some it may indicate honor, success, fortune, or wealth and perhaps summer, heat, and warmth. Communism, Socialism, and revolution are in the mix too! As always at O’Hanlon Center, abstract and expressionistic works are highlighted.
Juror Toni Littlejohn is a painter and teacher who also practices meditation and alchemy regularly. She says, “In everyday, ‘normal’ life, I take color for granted because it is everywhere, in everything. But there are times when I find myself stopped, entirely entranced in looking at the colors in an object. I receive deep pleasure from the saturations, the subtle variations, how they change as the neighboring colors change. I am in awe of the mystery that color penetrates through all matter, even through me. I am amazed how color vibrates, that I do not need to use my eyes to feel its energy. This energy is in all things, even in myself. Each human finds or does not find his or her own pathway to being connected. I am grateful to know that color is my guide into this realm.”

Also on February 7 from 4 to 6 p.m., the Center will host a Roundtable for the Arts dialogue, where the participating artists will discuss issues relating to their creative processes. The Roundtable, a monthly event sponsored by the Center, is facilitated by painter, writer and O’Hanlon Center member Dr. Peller Marion.
The opening show on February 7 is part of the Mill Valley Art Commission’s monthly Gallery Walk, First Tuesday. The event is free of charge and open to all ages. Artwork on display is available for purchase. Proceeds from sales support local artists and the O’Hanlon Center as a non-profit organization.
