“What we are and who we are as individuals, as a society,
and as a species, is being challenged.” – Ann O’Hanlon
Founder Ann O’Hanlon spoke the words above in 1991, in a letter to the membership. Is there any question that her statement is even more relevant today? The development of a resilient and creative human spirit is imperative in the 21st century. See below for ways you can support OHCA.

Information Guide: Helpful Ways to Reduce Your Taxes while Helping Others: A checklist for tax smart charitable gifts, courtesy of O’Hanlon Center for the Arts, a 501(c)3 non-profit charity (Tax ID # 94-1711729).
Reducing Income Taxes
-
The 50 Percent Factor: If you itemize, you can generally deduct charitable gifts of up to 50% of adjusted gross income. Gifts that exceed your adjusted gross income limits can generally be carried over to reduce your income taxes in another year.
-
Give and Get: Charitable lead and remainder trusts can give you a tax break now and help a charity with much needed revenue even while you receive the income. These types of trusts can be useful for people who are in a high tax bracket now but who expect to be in a lower bracket later.
Reducing Estate Taxes
Estate tax law is both complicated and uncertain for 2010. Congress has not renewed estate tax laws to date. However, most tax experts believe estate taxes will return in 2011. You can lower the amount of taxes your heirs will pay by:
-
Removing Uncle Sam from your IRA account. Your IRA accounts inflate your assets subject to estate tax. Consider gifting these assets to reduce your estate.
-
Using a charitable remainder trust to gift assets – cash, bonds or highly appreciated stocks - while continuing to receive lifetime income. Upon your death the assets revert to the charity. The gift removes the assets from your estate immediately, and reduces current income taxes.
-
Using a legacy gift to a charity, written into your will or trust. Your estate will be reduced by the amount of the gift.
-
Making a charitable gift in your lifetime, and using life insurance in an irrevocable life insurance trust to pay to your heirs the replacement value of the gift, in part or all.

Please consult with your tax counsel before acting upon these suggestions. Tax laws change yearly; see your tax counsel before making gifts.

We are a nonprofit educational organization (a 501(c) 3) whose mission is to provide a supportive environment dedicated to innovation and discovery. We rely on the community and our members to keep us going. Like all arts organizations, the recent years have seen a diminished public support for the arts, but you can be of great help to our grass-roots approach to outreach and marketing by making a donation, no matter how much (or little).
The O’Hanlon Center for the Arts is filling a needed niche. We are gaining momentum, starting with the change from our original name, Sight & Insight Art Center; and continuing with our program and studio expansion. The Center was featured recently in the Pacific Sun, the Marin Independent Journal, as well as Marin Magazine and exhibitions and programs are regularly announced in the local press.
We are uniquely positioned to take on the role of creative mentor because of our setting, our heritage and our philosophy. We have a strong and experienced Board of Directors and an enthusiastic body of members. We need the help of those members and our community to survive. Our time of being “the best-kept secret in Marin” is over, and we need your help to continue our moves into the wider world. In order to seek foundation funding, we must be able to show that our members support us financially on an annual basis.
With your support, O’Hanlon Center for the Arts can not only continue to nurture our own personal growth, but can also extend its influence by bringing together people of all disciplines to reinforce the inquiring mind and champion the creative life of the spirit.
OHCA accepts cash, checks and credit cards (over the phone or in
person in the office).
We ask your participation in creating more a robust fiscal future for O’Hanlon Center.
